A man once saw a boy holding a miniature globe. Then the man asked the boy, “why is your world so small?” Without hesitation the boy replied, “so I can hold it.”
Just like the boy, I’d like to hold my own world, too. As an infant, our world revolved around drinking milk and sleeping most of the time. Then we became toddlers and it quickly expanded into playing around and eating candies. As teenagers, our world mainly revolved around school, and academic tests while at the same time keeping our sanity together with pressures from people around us — our family and friends — not to mention the changes puberty is bringing into our physical realities.
As we soon hit adulthood, our world became much bigger and difficult to handle. Demands from society, our work and even the Government has brought so much pressure most of us have become accustomed to the hustle culture. Heck, we even started categorizing stress into good or bad.
Time was when I was obsessed with titles, things that money can’t buy, and image of what people thought of me. I spent over 15 years building my dream career, only to discover once I got there it was more like a living nightmare. So after years of going back and forth with myself, I’ve decided to drop the ball — a world that had become so big, it completely overpowered me. And yes, you read the title right. I’ve quit my job, decided to take chances on my own with no job prospects nor concrete backup plans. But for the first time in a long long time, I'm taking back the narrative and control of my life.
So, just like the boy, I’m now holding my own world, too. Without pressures from society, work, or even family. I now embark on a spiritual/ travel journey about to fly around Europe, do the Camino de Santiago hike from France to Spain, start writing again and share my story with the world. And let me tell you, it's pretty awesome.
So do yourself a favor, chase the things that remind you of you. It’s about having the balls to show up as the happiest, most bad ass version of yourself. It’s about trying not to run away from who you once were and not being scared to dream like you once did when you were a kid — because that is what life is all about.
